OUTREACH

North Point VEX organizes initiatives that reach out to community members to teach them about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We plan fun activities with STEM as our central theme to encourage our youth to join VEX robotics at their schools and their interest in STEM.

WORKSHOP

We invite younger girls in the county who are interested in STEM to join us at our event called the Girl Powered VEX Robotics Workshop. We love helping the girls fuel their passions for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It is very rewarding to be able to teach these girls that they can be whoever they want, and give them role models to look up to that we did not have growing up. We assist the girls in building and programming their own robots, while simulating the engineering design process. Then we have the girls compete against one another in our championship, refereed by the volunteers. They strategize together as they collaborate during their competition. We also invite a special female guest speaker every year to inspire the girls to pursue their interests in STEM fields.

COMPUTER WORKSHOP

This year we decided to host a Computer seminar for all ages, to learn how to be more technologically aware. We taught them how to navigate Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. We also showed them how to use keyboard shortcuts such as Copy/Paste, Bold, Italics, Undo, and Select All. We also introduced computer programming through Hour of Code to our community's youth.
